International Society
for Health & Human Rights

8th International Conference
15-18 October 2008
Hotel Sol de Oro, Miraflores
Lima - PERU

TRUTH, JUSTICE & REPARATION:
Rebuilding Health and Dignity after Trauma & Human Rights Violations.

The International Society for Health and Human Rights (ISHHR) was established to share knowledge, skills, experiences and concerns regarding the impact of persecution, torture and other human rights violations.

Since World War II, and especially in the past 30 years, there has been a significant increase in human rights abuses in many parts of the world. These violations are widespread and sophisticated in form, and leave behind issues of torture, trauma, poverty, significant health problems, and many others.

ISHHR brings together professionals and people affected by trauma and human rights abuses from all over the world every few years for a major conference to combat these effects.
For a list of previous conferences, see "About ISHHR" or Click here...

The next conference will be in Peru in October 2008. The mix of participants who attend will mean sharing of knowledge between First World countries and affected regions, as well as affected regions sharing knowledge with other affected regions. It also gives those who have suffered trauma and human rights abuses the opportunity to share solutions and educate the rest of the world about the problems they face. For details about contributing to the Program content, please see "Conference Program" or Click here...

The conference is translated live into Spanish and English. Afterwards conference materials will be converted into a free educational resource for attendees and anyone, anywhere to use, also translated into Spanish and English (other languages may follow).

To make the conference as effective as possible we need to ensure that every region affected by trauma and major human rights violations is represented. To achieve this we must collectively raise at least $US250,000 to help representatives from poorer regions to attend. For details about how to help fundraise and to receive a fundraising kit, please see "Fundraise or Donate to Help Affected Regions Participate" or click here...

Or to make a donation to give people from poorer regions affected by trauma and human rights abuses the opportunity to participate, please click below.

There are a limited number of positions available to volunteers from anywhere in the world. Places will be allocated first to volunteers who help with fundraising. Any volunteer or organisation raising $US25,000 or more will receive a free volunteering trip to Peru to help coordinate proceedings. One additional place will be awarded to the volunteer who raises the greatest amount of money. These places are transferable and will provide valuable experience to anyone wanting to be involved in volunteering.

We are also pleased to announce that ISHHR will be collaborating with PsycheVisual, a multimedia company who will film the Conference.

PsycheVisual  (www.psychevisual.com) is an interactive website where you can find and easily access papers and multimedia presentations on a wide range of topics and materials for professionals and the general public on issues pertaining to health services, psychology, psychiatry, mental health care and social services.

Access to the content of this site is by subscription, on a pay per view or pay to download basis. Many of the speakers represented on the site are leaders in their field. It is a unique and priceless resource, and we hope it will broaden access to information for professionals and interested parties around the world.
